A Spirit Animal is essentially a Spirit Guide that comes in the form of an animal; it can also be a messenger or teacher. These animals can make themselves known through books, movies, social media, songs, conversations, or dreams, and lastly, encountering them as living, breathing animals. A Spirit Animal can be mythological, such as a dragon, unicorn, or the Phoenix. These creatures live in the Astral Plane but do not exist in our 3D world. You may see signs of them manifesting in the physical plane, and if you do see them, count yourself lucky! If a Spirit Animal shows up in your world repeatedly or in some unusual way, it is usually a sign. And if it appears in your dreams, then you know this particular Spirit Animal means business. Perhaps it is the only way that it can get your attention.
For example, if you are going through a transformational period, you might begin to see butterflies around you. This insect goes through a remarkable transformation from the egg, to the fuzzy caterpillar, onto the chrysalis, finally emerging as the beautiful butterfly. You can use this Spirit Animal to help you decide what stage of your transformation you are experiencing. For example, perhaps you desire a new career and feel inspired to start your own business but are uncertain about the type of business to run, so you gather ideas. This idea stage is akin to the egg of the butterfly. Once you have decided on your business idea, and are in the very active planning, creating, and gathering resources phase of the business, you are now in the caterpillar stage. And if you are in the chrysalis stage, you have done most of the work but aren’t quite ready to launch that business yet. Once you have reached the butterfly stage, you have completely transformed your career and are now ready to hang that open-for-business sign on the front door.
If you happen to see a bear, it could be telling you to go into a cave (meditate) to heal something or connect to your inner knowing to get answers. If a dog crosses your path, it may prompt you to pay attention to a friend who may need your loving support, or remind you to stay loyal to your goals. Seeing a salmon means listening to your wisdom or to that of another. A bat signals a time of death and rebirth regarding some aspect of your life. A beaver encourages you to keep building a dream. Seeing a frog is a reminder that you need to cleanse some negativity in your mind, body, or emotions or, for you to bring more peace in your life.
Spirit Animals have helped me on numerous occasions. The owl has appeared to me flying in front of my car while driving, 
hooting by my bedroom window at night, or sitting silently in a tree, staring down at me. The main message was usually to be aware of deception around me; I needed to see the truth of a situation. On one particular occasion, it saved me from making a costly mistake! A hawk sighting will alert me that an important message is coming. Seeing a fox alerts me to observe someone’s actions by staying hidden. And a mouse will remind me to pay attention to details—did I forget to pay a bill? Seeing a Great Blue Heron encourages me to stay on my unique path and strike fast when opportunities appear, and spotting an Eagle soaring above, means that a Spiritual test is coming my way or I need to get a broader perspective of my life.
Each Spirit Animal has specific talents and abilities that it uses to survive and adapt in nature and you can develop these skills in your own life. When you see an animal sign, look up the symbolism and then intuit the message it is giving you, by feeling the rightness of it. Or, if you don’t understand why it is in your life, ask for another message. This may come as a hunch, thought, dream, or another way.
Spirit Animals are great allies because they can help you reconnect to your soul, thus helping you with your Spiritual Awakening. If you are starting your Spiritual journey you may notice the appearance of signs, symbols, and synchronicities that happen in such a way that they can’t be a coincidence. It’s something that makes you think, what was that all about? Seeing repeating numbers is a universal sign for many people, such as 11:11, 555, and 7777. But getting signs from a Spirit Animal is magical and mysterious, because of their connection to nature and the potential for powerful healing. They have become my trusted friends; I can’t imagine my life without them now.
